My name is Lizzy McGary. I am a science illustrator, thru-hiker, and ecology field worker from Minnesota. I love the outdoors. I’ve had the privilege of working in nature since I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2021 with my degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
In 2023 I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. That long term experience in the wilderness colors how I see the world. It inspired me to engage in science communication and engage others in appreciating our natural world.
Through my work in science illustration I aim to engage people in life long curiosity and learning. My experience doing ecology field work has taught me to observe the world closely.
Science and illustration both start with observation. The joy of nature is that there is always something you’ve never seen before, and I hope to inspire curiosity and care for the natural world. Inside everyone is a scientist!
